My parents are coming up tomorrow to buy a new camcorder. I figured I'd take them to BB first to price stuff, then to this reigonal chain of stores (ABC Warehouse) where we've bought electronics in the past. There, the advertised price is never what you pay. You can haggle with them and usually they'll come down in price.

The only other place I was going to maybe take them was Circuit City. I hate going to CC, just because I feel like a wounded antelope in the middle of a pride of lions, but I'd like to get them the best deal possible. I don't think you can haggle at CC, because I've never bought a large ticket item there. Just curious if you can or not :)

You can haggle at any store. Never hurts to ask for a manager and try. Worst that can happen is he'll laugh you out of the store. I do it pretty often.

I will haggle the clearance items at Staples, I figure the manager wants them gone anyway.

They need the camera now, not in a week. Besides, they're not getting a miniDV camcorder, and dell doesn't sell analog camcorders (digital is not an option and will never be an option for them so no point in trying to convince me otherwise :))

The sony I am going to suggest to them is going for $350 (apprently its on sale and I can't check the price online). Bestbuy doesn't have it listed online but may have it in the store. ABC Warehouse is unknown at the moment. How much haggle room is there at CC?

You'd have a much better chance haggling at CC than you would at BB.

My roommate was buying DirecTV satellite receivers, he was going to buy some $59 RCA's. The sales rep said they're having an extended warranty contest and he's close to meeting his quota, if he buys the more expensive $79 model he'll reduce the price from $79 down to $59, so he went for it.

local place is probably going to be the most willing to haggle. CC won't be completely against it though.

You'll have to talk to the manager. The sales counselor can do nothing about the price. It helps if you are buying accessories and extended service as well. They are not supposed to lower prices at all, but if they're desperately trying to meet some quota, they'll work something out for you.

You can attempt to haggle anything, anywhere. You won't always be successful though. :)

Oh.

You said pens.

For some reason I inserted an extra "i" in there.

Ok...back to reality.

not sure about CC, but at BB, if you're excited about purchasing the item, then kinda back out, they'll try and save the sale. Then they'll offer you the extended warranty. Use that warranty as your haggling device. They'll drop the price (also known as inboarding, which is illegal) and after you buy it, return the warranty. It was common practice at my BB for awhile on getting computer warranties.

BB = No commision (?)
CC = Commision (?)
Good Guys = Commision (for sure)

Try GG and see what you can do.

I would REALLY try buying over the net and shipping.. I just got a $700 Pioneer car stereo for $348 shipped.. Next day would have cost me another $40.. But I'm too cheap.! heheh.. (www.6ave.com)
