Is There Going To Be A Rev 2.0 for X79 Boards?

It's time for me to once again consider a new build, and I want to utilize a Socket 2011 board. However, when I look at the specs for the new Socket 1155 X77 boards and compare them to the existing X79 boards, I see a possible window of improvement for the present X79 chipset boards. This could be much like the Rev 2.0 that was done for X58A boards.

If someone has some reasonably solid info on this matter, I'd like to hear about it. Many thanks, and best regards to everyone. TheBeagle

I personally havent heard of any Rev 2.0 for X79 boards but then the Roadmaps for X79 and Intel® Core™ i7 (socket 2011) appears very stable for the rest of the year with no changes to it. That doesnt mean that there wont be it just means they are keeping it quite so far.

IIRC, X79 was supposed to pack support for up to 10 x SATA6 ports but has since been neutered down to just 2.

I suppose its not that big of a deal for me at the moment as I have my setup revolving around just a pair of SSDs in RAID-0 for my OS and all my apps and having everything else do just fine on HDDs (mostly just video), its just kind of a bummer as X79 sounded like it was going to be a beastly platform that could rival the legacy of X58. Not so much now.

Other than that official support for USB3.0 would be nice, although far from necessary as the add-on controllers really have been good enough for the majority of USB3.0 devices, its the add-on SATA6 controllers that have been a pretty big disappointment when compared to Intel's

it would be nice if X79 was updated, but if we haven't heard anything by now I wouldn't count on it :(

No competition =

2013 - X79 with 4 native SATA ports with new Socket 2012
2014 - X79 with native USB 3.0 with new Socket 2013
2015 - X79-Extreme with BOTH 4 native SATA 6g ports AND native USB 3.0 with new Socket 2013b
2016 - nothing new
2017 - X79 with 6 native SATA 6g ports and new Socket 2011 but not the same as old Socket 2011

etc.

At least that's how this industry has been feeling the last couple years.
