Is there an official release date for Supreme Commander?

All the dates I've seen so far are from ignorant and hopeful people.
The official sites dont have firm dates and the rumor sites all say something different.

Incidentally, they are public beta testing right now.

ALOHA

Technically speaking, yes, you can zoom in the camera that far and lock the camera position there. But why? The game is meant to be 3rd person. :p

I cannot get excited about FPS titles anymore. They've been repackaging the same game for years now. They just add a visual face lift, a different set of weapons, a few (more) vehicles, etc, and slap a 50 dollar price tag on it. :(

Well I just like to play in first person perspective, not saying I'm a major lover of FPS games, all though it's all I play at the moment, I just love the feeling of being in the game looking at it in first person, feeling like I'm more apart of it, not to mention the details of scenes seeing the game this way.

Oh is it 3rd person like Splinter Cell, just behind characters or farther away looking like down on the game action?

Warhammer Mark of Chaos, and Star Trek Legacy look like they might be great games. Medieval Total War 2, and Neverwinter Nights 2 have already been mentioned. Those are the ones I'm looking forward to.

BladeVenom see I don't want to play a game like this:

http://www.markofchaos.com/images/screenshots/011806/md/screen_6.jpg

I have to admit, my take on a game is, if it's 3rd person from far away I feel more like a spectator, but in first person I feel I'm a part of it.

Do any of these games that everyone is mentioning play in 3rd person right behind, next to the characters, or are they typically seen from a far off?

THANKS

I think you need to understand that Neverwinter Nights is NOT Doom3 with swords.
It is a fairly decent adaptation of the D&D 3rd Edition game to a computer.
Asking if you can play NWN in 1st person is like asking to play chess in first person.
Pointless.
Its not that kind of game by any stretch of the imagination.
And it is still a video game, not real life. You are no more a "part of the action" than if you were playing a flight sim or a sports game. You're not actually flying a jet or dribbling down the court. Its a representation of such activities in an electronic format with pretty colors and sound effects.

NWN2 is also NOT like Oblivion .. . far more traditional D&D 3.5 RPG with a top down camera view [although you "can" have it at your shoulder] . . . you "can' also use WASD but it is really mouse and click to move.

hold on, shortyl . . . you certainly can play chess in first person
:Q

in a tournament that's the way it IS played :p
[or do you look from behind or above yourself?]

games aren't "real"?

D&D?

Well I wasn't expecting first person, but I hate the RTS far away from the scene look. I was hoping that possibly some of the newer RTS games had you there now with a behind the character look instead, or closer to the characters.

Now with Company of Heroes I see some regular looking RTS shots like how command and conquer, looking at the scenes from off in the distance.

But I noticed on IGN many screenshots of Company of Heroes showing game scenes with you behind soliders.

Do you play Company of Heroes at this type of closer views, as well as further away, or are these just movie scenes in the game?

Is it more like this?
