are all the rice haters putting down ALL import cars? to me, there's the right way and the wrong way.

when i was younger, like 7-8 years ago, me and my buddies would go to sylmar (for those of you not in the LA area, it is a semi-industrial area where drag races took place) and watch and race mostly import cars. there were mostly asians there and occasionally some white folks. anyways, the idea then was to make you car look CLEAN. what i mean by that is, if you modified the outside, you go with the lines and the geometry of the car....not make it into a whole new "thing". people also put clean rims that were made for the car. today, i see this trend as well as....

the cars that looks like there from outer space!!! big chrome rims(the ugly non-japanese style rims) big spoilers that have no function and stickers up the wazooo!

IMO, i think there's a difference. if it's a civic or whatever compact, and it looks "tasteful" i don't think it's "rice". if it has a kit from another car, stickers from another car, rims that belong on a LOWRIDER or homey da clown's car,
.....it's a "RICER".

Modifying an import is not necessarily "ricing." Cosmetically "enhancing" a car with thoughts that it somehow increases performance, or will make others THINK it has better performance is ricing... adn the most OFFENSIVE ricing is that done in POOR taste (huge spoilers, decals that obscure vision, etc.)

i ask cause it seems as though all the "rice" haters are hostile against all import cars.

in LA, you see many chunty-ass people fixing there sh!t up like it was a 100grand car. but on the other hand, i do see some nice compacts(even american compacts...focus etc) that are fixed up in good taste.

I admire anyone who can take a stock car, make it fast as hell, and hide all the modifications.

Take John Lingenfelter's corvette mod from about a year ago. Looked like a stock 'vette, even when you popped the hood IIRC. Only when you crawled under the car could you see the mods he made to it. At the time, it was the fastest, street legal car ever MT tested.

true true....the sleeper look is awesome. but those who have the "show" with da "go", their car is not rice.
