I'm considering upgrading to WinXP but I don't know what backup options are available. Is there software that will do backups to CD-RW using a Liteon 32x burner?

I checked out Veritas's Backup MyPC, it doesn't support XP. I also looked at Dantz's Retrospect but it doesn't support my burner. Does XP come with anything that would work? I'm open to any suggestions.

Thanks

I'm not sure about CD-RW backup, but 1 feature I do like is being able to backup to hard drive in XP. I love backing up my 18GB Boot drive in <15 minutes :)

Windows XP comes with ntbackup, but it does not install when you install XP. It is very similar to Seagate backup. You can backup to a CD-RW if you have UDF software installed (Roxio DirectCD, Ahead InCD etc.).

I personally use Bask. I don't use it in XP, but XP is supported. It's a very light program, but very powerful. It can be operated with command line switches - I use windows task scheduler to do my backups every night.

Are the backups created by BASK restorable without a copy of the BASK
program ?

You could use the native backup program in WinXP (under acces.,system tools, backup) to create a backup file on your hard drive, and then drag and drop it onto your CD burner using the WinXP native CD burning capability. However you would be limited in your backup file to the size that can fit on one CD. It would be a lot nicer to get software that could span CD's.
