Is there/ can you make a volume control for headphones?

I would like to buy some headphones and use them with my computer, among other things. Since I have some speakers already in my SB Live value, I will try to split the signal and run a cable to near the mouse, so when I want to listen to headphones, then'll just switch the inputs. Anyways, since volume control is a hassle through windows (little speaker, then drag up), is there a device that you can plug in between the output jack of the soundcard and the headphones so you can control the volume from there? I know that some of the newer CD players had this, but I'm looking for more info on this.

Thanks
Dan

Check out Radio Shack. I don't know the part # but I got one for a set of headphones there.

A lot of big name companies sell headphones with a volume controller. I've seen a couple from Sony, Aiwa, Panasonice, JVC... shouldn't be too hard to find. I see them all the time here in Canal Street (electronics street) near Chinatown NY...

I recently bought some replacement headphones at the panasonic site. The part I bought didn't have the volume control, but it attached to the wire with a volume control.

What I'm trying to say is, I'm pretty sure you can the other part of the headphone that I didn't buy at their site.

If you can't find similar stuff at RadioSmack or better a store, lemme know and I'll fetch the page at panasonic for you.

1) You can buy headphones with inline Volume (and on some Mute) control(s).
2) You can easily cut the cable and add a nob or slider inline.
3) You can always make the Sound Card mixer visible in the Systray and adjust from there (right click or dbl click).

Or, if you happen to be in the market for a new keyboard, you can pick up one that has a volume control built in.

Don't forget if you split the signal between your headphones and speakers, you'll have to turn down the speakers in addition to adjusting the volume of your headphones. I would personally get a set of speakers that have a headphone-out jack and headphones with a built-in volume control (there are more out there than you might think).

You can also buy a headphone extension cord that has a built in volume controller, I bought one about 1.5 years ago, but I can't remember where I bought it from, I think from online though.
