Is there anyway to remotely turn on another PC in the house with a remote control?

I am trying to get wake-on-lan to work for me but it won't. So I need to find a way to turn the PC on from a full-shut off. Is there any kind of remote control that will start a PC from another floor in the house?

Help.

X-12(the annoying camera add people) have some remote control thingies that will turn outlets on and off. Assuming the BIOS of the PC supports the "power on after power outage" feature (or something to that extent) you could have the outlet turned off and when you hit the "ON" button on the X-12 remote, it should make the PC fire up.

THe X-12 packages that I've seen use a remote control to activate the power switches.

I wonder if RadioShaq has some type "piston" switch that I could activate to push the PCs power button using a RF remote control?

I've put at least 50 hours trying to get wake on lan to work and it just won't. The software and hardware ARE setup correctly.

I need some type of remote control to power on my machine.

then to shut down your computer you just play a wav file of the old lady clapping.
