Is there anyway to recover from this problem, or is this computer toast?

I was working on a friend's 1998 P2 Gateway computer and we installed XP Pro and downloaded the latest BIOS revision. We followed the steps and flashed the BIOS and everything appeared fine until reboot when it displayed the Gateway screen, we pressed tab to see the details and watched it detect hd's, CDROM, keyboard, etc. and then pressed F1 to enter setup. The problem is, it just sits there and says "entering setup..." but nothing ever happens. Even if you don't press F1, the system will not boot normally past this point.

Help! This appears to be caused by the BIOS update but I'm not sure how to fix it since I can't reflash it without booting to at least a floppy disk. I noticed it still recognizes all the RAM but not the CPU cache the same as it did before, could there be any jumper settings that need to be changed?

I'll try taking the battery out for a while or see if I can find a reset jumper...

I did find one jumper that put the board in setup mode for if you installa new processor, and there is another called emergency setup mode (tried to access floppy drive, I assume for a bios flash file...) but no luck

I think the problem lies in the fact you didn't clear the CMOS after flashing the BIOS. The research I did before upgrading the one on my ABIT KG7RAID indicated it was pretty much a required step. See if you can find the jumper to clear the CMOS and try again. If you don't have the manual for the mobo, check around on the net to see if you can find a schematic. :)

I found an emergency recovery mode jumper that lets you load new bios revisions from a floppy disk and used it to revert to a previous BIOS version and everything is fine now
