i want my normal one and another to run an addon basically. 2 different processes so that the memory load will be split otherwise firefox freaks out when using too much memory it seems - 2.5, 3GB or so.

tried 2 diff install locations - refuses. ran as different user but it (really insecurely it seems) just added another window to the other running instance. tried some flag to "hide" it i found on google but that did nothing either.

If Firefox takes up too much memory on your computer, you can limit the amount of RAM it is allowed to us. Again, go to about:config, filter “browser.cache” and select “browser.cache.disk.capacity”. It’s set to 50000, but you can lower it, depending on how much memory you have. Try 15000 if you have between 512MB and 1GB ram.

This is for early versions of FF, so I'm not positive it's in the most recent update (I don't use a recent update), so YMMV.

You've never opened 50 tabs of porn? Gotta have options.

Yea but shouldn't Firefox actually keep memory usage down with lots of tabs open because of its single process design.

ABP (adblock plus) is known to cause higher ram usage[1][2]. If I had to guess that's probably a contributing factor to the high memory usage.

Another option would be to install the developer edition. You can run that alongside the normal FF if you want to.

You can create multiple profiles and open them simultaneously. But also install another version in another folder. I have the latest and greatest v35 for my default profile, open. And I have v31(opened in offline mode and set to not to update) running out of another folder with two profiles open.
