is there anyway to get to canada without crossing border check?

You can cross the 2000+ km border that goes from British Columbia to Manitoba (or since you're an American from Washington to Minnesota) just by walking across.

It's an extremely porous border. IIRC there are 90% more border agents on the U.S./Mexico border than on the U.S./Canada border. The U.S. Canada border is twice as long and more forested too. We can't even handle the Mexican border, we don't have a prayer at securing the Canadian border.
So to answer your question, yes there are tons of places to cross illegally.

and just going back and forth frequently safely without being checked by police from both sides.

Yea, do something stupid in US, they will think you're a Canadian and they will throw you in Canada. 
There are many miles of untouch forest that anyone can cross, but it can be difficult to because lack of trails.
In the 80s-90s, the easiest way is to go through native reserves that straddle both countries (can drive your vehicle across), however things may have change due to smuggling and 9/11. Parks/lakes that on the border also are good point of entries but that may also have change. And then there are small towns on the 49 parallel that do not have border guard late at night.
The easiest for me was driving from Stewart BC Canada to Hyder Alaska (highway) and there wasn?t any guard at any time of the day (late 80s to mid 90s). Hyder was the ugliest town that I have ever been to, and the first thing I notice there were a bar that is next door to a prolific gun shop (they had everything from hand guns to machine guns). And, I have never seen a place as dirty or have as much weapon in Canada. However, the natural surrounding is one of the most astounding environments to see (Salmon & Bear glacier).
