i don't think there is a direct route because there is this small obstacle called the *Rocky Mountains* in the way.

Nope, there isn't. You have 2 choices. Through LA, or up against the mountains on the Nevada side and cut back through to the Bay. Both ways are about 10 hours. The Non-LA way is more scenic, i.e. you won't be looking at barren fields the whole trip up but you will be looking at barren desert. I'd seperate the trip into two trips.

Ever since they blew up the Hoover Dam, it's been impossible to get out of Vegas. Still, it could be worse though. You could be stuck in upstate New York like me.

A big L shaped route not direct at all. FLY

You need to go to bakerfield first via I5 the cut across 46E to 99s then 58E then I-15 N. PIA

Your best bet is via Barstow and Bakersfield.

15 to the 58 to the 99 to the 46 to the 5 to the 580. 9.5 to 10 hours sounds about right... with no stops.

edit: bite me carby.

Nope, there is no way to get to San Francisco from Vegas by driving.

Vegas is a geographic blackhole which can only be escaped by air.

You dont need to go through L.A to go Vegas. From S.F. driving to vegas yeah its like 10 hours, but didn't have to go through L.A.

Well you can bypass the Rocky Mountains but it involves taking the uber secret underground tunnel underneath the Great Lakes.
