Is there anyway to get a hold of a native English speaking person at Windows activation?

I'm having a horrid time getting Windows activated. I have a regular retail copy of XP Pro Upgrade. I've installed this thing probably 4 or 5 times with no trouble. I built a new rig about 2 weeks ago and haven't been able get activation to work.

I put my numbers in, and get incorrect product key.

So I call. They say my product key and installation ID are valid, and don't know why it's causing a problem. This takes about an hour. After determining I need a new product key, the sorry fux hang up on me.

So I wait until today, spend another 20 minutes repeating everything, even though it's all sitting in a case # in their system. They finally issue me another product key. Ok great.

Well I get home tonight and same thing, incorrect product key, and it doesn't generate an installation ID at all this time. So another call and an hour on the phone and they are still puzzled.

Well retard in activation says that I'm using an upgrade version, and since I did a "fresh" install that it will not activate. That I must install Windows 98SE first and then upgrade to XP. I tell him I've done this a dozen times before but he'll hear nothing of it. The techincal support guy starts arguing with the activation person saying he is wrong and then they start jabbering to each other. Can't understand them to begin with, and now they argue. Well the fuxnuts disconnect me again.

So I'm pretty pissed at this point. Is there any one I can call and actually talk to someone I can understand and who can understand me?

I mean they say:

"Give you me your installation ID please"

Me: "It did not generate one, it is blank"

CS: "Yes the number right under there"

Me: "There is no number, nothing, it's blank"

CS: "You number provide me yes?"

Ug.

They've got one last phone call to get it right. Otherwise they will be out more than the $100 and some odd bucks I spent on this thing.

You seriously expect Microsoft to give you tech support when you are trying to use an upgrade version improperly ?

They told you what you need to do, install a previous version first.

it's supposed to let you install from scratch as long as you have a cd from a full previous version of windows on hand

No you don't...

if you boot to the upgrade CD, it will prompt you to insert the CD of the previous version of windows if it cannot find the OS already installed on the hard drive...

Yes and I insert the CD when asked and pop the XP back in to finish the install. The asshat in activation doesn't know what he's talking about. The tech support guy even told him he was wrong but he just hung up on me :(

True, I forgot about that. However, the OP didn't say if that is what he did, or if he has an eligible previous version CD.

FTW

I doubt MS deactivated your product key. I've installed a legal copy of XP on 100% new machine and it activates no problem.

I've found that if you call late in the evening around 8 or 9 EST you'll usually get their UK call center, which is slightly more bearable.

Also, you're going about this all wrong. I do up to three of these a day sometimes.

Call the number, hit 1, hit 1 again, when the automated system asks you to read the number hit 0, then hit 1 again. This bypasses the whole automated system thats going to tell you the # is wrong anyway. Then read your install ID to Punjabi and be done with it.

If you're not getting an installation ID at all to read to them there's nothing they can do to help you anyway and you have a problem on your side with the machine. Usually if it comes up with no number a reboot and starting that activation process again will take care of that.

Corp Edtion!!

Was it ever decided weather it's legal to buy XP pro then just install Corp Edtion? This is what I do, don't really care if it's legal. Microsfot got their money and I don't have to deal with activation.
