Is there anyway to get a dishwasher to clean better?

the dishwasher in my apartment worked great until a couple months ago, now plates and especially glasses seem to get dirtier when we use it...even if we pre wash it still gets dirtier then when we started

maybe some part of it needs to be cleaned? I dunno, just looking for ideas

your problem is that you are running cold water into the dishwasher. when you do this, it reverses the space-time continuum and when you're done eating your plates are clean, and after you wash them, they are dirty. just change the water hose over to the hot water pipe and the universe will sort itself out again.

ok, i really have no idea.

can you control the tempurature coming out of your heater? I've heard that turning it up some will really make a difference.

The detergent makes all the difference sometimes, try the Wal Mart branded powder, it works great.

If that doesn't work, get the apt manager to have a repairman look @ it...

Did anybody see the Home Improvement episode where Tim souped up the dishwasher? 😀
Are we talking the pilot where he just tweaks with the dishwasher, or the episode where he builds the Man's Kitchen for Tool Time, and it has a full wash mode?😉

Try running it empty with a gallon of vinegar in it. The acid in the vinegar should clean out a lot of the crap that is building up in there. Do this every couple of months.

Another thing that vinegar is good for is your washing machine because it remove built up rust among other things.

I had read that you can use citric acid to clean a dishwasher. An alternative is white vinegar. I put a small cup full of white vinegar in the top rack (upright, of course) and ran the dishwasher. Seemed to clean it pretty well.

You're probably better off with an actual dishwasher cleaner, but if you have the vinegar around, it's convenient.

Correct. Consumer Reports rates dishwashers and detergents. When enzymatic detergents were released, they had to rework their dishwasher rating system. The enzyme based detergents even made the lowest rated dishwashers clean well. The enzymes break down the food as the detergent cleans the rest away. Thus stuck on foods will be cleaned much better.

If I recall correctly Walmart sells a enzyme based detergent and Electrasol Tabs (get the Tabs NOT the gel packs) are sold everywhere.
