Is there anything wrong with teenagers (14-15) seeing R-rated movies?

I went to the movies tonight. while standing in line at the machine to buy tickets, a group of 10 teenagers came up to me and asked me to buy them tickets for House of Wax. the ticket seller wouldn't sell them to the teenagers because it's an R rated movie.

I had no problem buying the tickets for them and taking their cash. the person I was with was a little aghast, but I don't really see the harm in it. people did the same thing for me when I was that age, and I'm no worse for the wear.

If full frontal nudity and murders are allowed in PG-13 movies, how much worse can "R" be? It's not like they won't see it on TV, which is arguably *just* as sexual and violent.

If those little punks dip themselves in wax and go hacking and shooting up their school you're gonna feel real dumb now aren't you? ;)

depending on the child, around 12 or 13. by 14 or 15 they should be able to handle an r rating.

doesn't matter what they can handle, law says 17 and up for R, or else accompanied by an adult. Theater's gotta do it or risk getting in trouble.

You should have let their parents make that decision for them.

LOL I remember when I was 14 and went to a R-rated movie with friends, one of them pulled out his parents permission slip to see the movie :D
We're like WTF, the movie ticket guy didn't care.

Wrong.

Movie ratings are not "Law," they are a voluntary system that movie theaters generally adhear to, they are not backed up by law, it is not illegal to buy an underage person a movie ticket.

On a personal note I was watching R rated movies, and horrow movies when I was under 10 and had no problem getting into R rated movies as a teen either I guess the theaters back then didnt care much about the ratings, however funnily enough when Scream 2 came out I was 16 I think and they wouldnt sell me a ticket, so I had my mom by me a ticket but one of the theater manager wouldnt let me see the movie with my friend unless my mom stayed with us. My mother got totally pissed at the theater manager because she didnt want to see the movie she was just going to leave us to see it and pick us up later. We ended up taking our business elsewhere where the people werent pricks.

Shortly afterward I turned 17 and it didnt matter anymore.

I went to go see Ring Two at the theatres. They asked for my ID (I was 17 at the time), I gave it to them, they said, "You can't see this movie, you're not 18." I asked the girl who just told me this if she was stupid. Then asked to see the manager.

I ended up getting to see the movie at the Matinee rate rather than the $2 more student rate. :)

This movie theater I go to around here has a sign that says you will get carded if you are not 25 years old. Pretty lame. I never get carded though.

i dont get carded (wouldn't matter anyway since i can watch R movies), but i love watching 13 year olds trying to get into r movies get carded then act surprised and say 'they left their id's in their cars' heh.
