Is there anything that tests your 5.1 surround system?

Hmmm... it sure looks like it's set up for 5.1 duty.

Have you tried updating your drivers? Maybe there is something screwed up with the version you're using.

I haven't seen you answer this, I believe in CS you have to set the audio settings to 5.1. I'm too lazy to check to exact settings right now, but its something easily overlooked
 
i wonder which one to choose
I have tried CS:S for the audio test. 5.1 selected, rear sats dont produce sound during the test
