is there anything special to know about installing new hardware on a Win2000 OS?

First of all, I couldn't get this PC to boot up when I first put in the PCI card. I don't know for sure that it was the card that caused the problem but after reseating all of the components it finally booted up.

When it booted I took a look at the Device Mananger and there were "?" next to the PCI sound card, the PCI internal modem, the RAID controller because there weren't drivers for the devices. I tried to install drivers from the hard drive and it couldn't find the suitable driver.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Is there something critical to know about Windows 2000 and installing new devices?

There is a possibility that there were "?" next to the the above mentioned devices before I seated the PCI card--I had just did a fresh reinstall of Windows 2000 a day before and never looked at the Device Manager.

They must have aftermarket drivers that are not available in a standard 2k install. If you have the cds that came w\ that hardware pop it in, or go to the manufacturers website, hit the support section and download what you need.
It is common for the pci cards to have conflicts in the device manager.
