I work for Dell, and we help people everyday with fan problems.

I called Dell support numerous times and was told to download fangui...I did...It was not compatible with the mobo and chipset.

I am not alone on this issue. Search through Dell forums (or even anandtech threads) and you will see that the Inspiron 2650C has this problem as many people will testify.

My dell 4550 is quiet

I had a 5400 rpm maxtor in there that was loud as heck.

When removed I can't even notice that it's turned on.

I gotta see the little light in the bottom middle of the case.

I've had my Dell 8250 for a while now and it is whisper-quiet (with the exception of the CD drives).
My old home-built system had a whole bunch of fans in it and it was louder than hell. When I bought the Dell I was amazed.

 

My POS Optiplex GX110 at work has a HD that is so loud you can hear it across the room. Dell is synonymous with garbage AFAC.

Well, my parents have a P2 350 gateway that has 0 fans.

The CPU has a huge heatsink and no fan and the power supply is 90 watts with no fan

Can't get any quiter than that

I noticed there were no fans when I upgraded their memory from 64MB-192MB

The computer is 5 years old but with a cable modem its great for non gaming home applications

We've got some Compaqs here at the office that are nearly silent as well. A lot of people are pointing out the obvious since it looks like they just want a chance to brag on their systems. I don't think the original post is trying to say a quiet Dell computer is BETTER than your quiet computer. He's just asking about others. We obviously know they're not geared for overclocking-style performance since they don't have to worry about too many fans. Just a CPU fan (in many cases, not even that) and the powersupply fan (which is VERY quiet.) But for most office environments thats all you need. The case on our Compaqs are well insulated and weigh a ton further helping to stifle the noise and the 7200RPM hard drives are quiet as well. I have to look at the light to see if it's on.
