Is there anything or anyone that is trustworthy anymore?

It seems that this country is obsessed with conspiracy theories and generally finding the bad in everything. Hell, every news cast now ends with a "investigative report". I've been racking my brain trying to come up with someone, something, some company or some event that is universally considered trustworthy and has integrity, but can't.

Recent examples:

9/11 and it's investigation - conspiracy theories run rampant on who/what was behind 9/11

Walmart - trying to destroy small business/treats their employees like slaves

American Red Cross - read a disparaging post just the other day from someone on ATOT

American Idol - Many believe it's rigged no matter the public vote

McDonald's - uses fat-laden food to addict people

Religions/Churches - I don't need to add anything on this

This brief list is only of those areas where the perception is not necessarily supported by fact (and please don't link a bunch of theories) and does not take into consideration those things/people who may have already proven to be untrustworthy. Which makes me wonder if it's gotten to the point in our society that everything is tagged with "if it's too good to be true, then it is".

Is there anything that is sacred anymore?

Very simply, nothing ever was trustworthy, people are just getting over the illusion tht anything can be trusted.

lol, I was going to put that in there too, but I didn't want to turn this into a political debate.

Being trustworthy is an overrated virtue anyway.

Why would you want to put your trust in someone and believe them to have your best interest at heart if they cannot do so for themselves?

I generally agree, but I try to trust some things. The Red Cross remark caught me off guard and got me to thinking. I generally think they do a commendable, trustworthy job and because of what they do your statement doesn't really apply.

Jack's allegiance was to his country first and that guy second. He was, and is, trustworthy to the American people. If the German guy took Jack up on his offer then Jack would have set things right after that other crap was over.

You can't call him untrustworthy for defending his country, if anything that made him more trustworthy, to the people who matter anyway, Americans.

Uh....what?! For me if a person isn't trustworthy, he/she is not a good candidate for a close friend, marriage, or employment. How is that not important?

Okay, can we keep this to non-fictional characters. :p

sure i trust other people. everytime i get in a plane, train, or bus, i trust the pilot, engineer, or driver to not crash and kill me. eveytime i order online, i trust the shop to not rip me off.

but in all seriousness, the only people I will fully trust are people I know very well - ie my mom and gf
