I know that cats are lactose intolerant and that canned tuna is bad for their health.. but other than that are there any health warnings for cat diets? I ask because he eats random stuff he sees laying around. He's sitting here digging into my box of Carr's table water crackers. They're the black pepper sort too, but that's not stopping him from munching on one. Funny watching a cat get crumbs stuck inside its mouth. :p

I guess I could ask the same question about dogs too while I'm at it. I know that chocolate is fatal to puppies and can cause problems with other dogs.. carob and white chocolate excluded.. anything else? My parents' dogs have this thing for apples, tangerines, and lettuce. Wierd.

here's a good link with info like you're looking for...

Link

Highlights from the link: "Are there things I shouldn't feed my cat?
Yes. Leading the group is chocolate. Chocolate contains a substance called theobromine which is toxic. Never feed chocolate or food containing chocolate to your pet. Also, never feed an onion to your pet, as large amounts can destroy your pet's red blood cells causing anemia. While many people give their pets raw meat, fish or poultry products these meats contain bacteria or possibly parasites, which are killed in the cooking process. For this reason, raw meats are also not recommended. Softer bones such as those from pork or poultry should not be fed, as then can splinter and puncture the intestines."

I know they say don't feed pets chocolate, but I have 6 dogs and 5 cats, and I guarantee my dogs have eaten more chocolate than most people, with no apparent harm.
Maybe it's not good for puppies, but I don't believe it hurts adult dogs.

Recently one my cats ate some Metabolift. It didn't have any side effects. So you can put Metabolift on the "safe to eat" list for cats...

Your better off not feeding your cat any human food. It may cause them problems down the road. I've owned several cats and that's what my vet has recommended.

Mice are o.k.

My cat always hunts them down, eats half of the body, and brings the other half to me. He lines them up in a row on my front porch.

One moring there was so much blood everywhere from 5 mice that he brought me, it looked like O.J. came over for a party. :Q

We have a Maine my excellent compatriot cat we adopted a couple of months ago, besides being huge and eating A LOT of food, he loves to eat rather unusual fare for a cat. A few selections are - cucumbers, asparagus, and melon. We adopted his from a vegetarian family, maybe that's why :D

I'm not so sure about that, Harvey. I'd feed my brother to my cat in a second so long as the cat wouldn't be hurt.:D

:(
