So, I'm down to the last hundreds on my car loan. As soon as the next paycheck comes it will be paid off. Is there anything spectacular that has to be done for this or do I just go down to the credit union had them the check and say, "adios?" I heard somewhere about a lien on the title that needs removing or some related somethings or others. Thoughts? Advise?

They should send you original registration with a letter saying lien is paid off.
Now you will be the sole owner of the car, yay! :D

The credit union will have put a charge on the title to your car that they need to remove when you have made your final payment.

Ask them to send you confirmation that they have removed the charge (lien).

the lienholder will give you a letter saying you paid off the loan, you'll want to take that to the DMV and get the lien removed from your title (unless they send you one like the dudes ^^ said)

you should also notify your insurance company that you no longer have a lienholder on the vehicle

You'll miss the car payment, so the best idea is to trade in this one and buy an even more expensive one; it's the American way.

They'll do a title transfer, then it's all yours. Until you have that piece of paper, you don't own the car in the eyes of the DMV.

Excellent! Thanks everyone! Neurorelay I wouldn't be surprised if we did get another car, or as my dad says, "as soon as it is paid off something bad will happen to it."
