Is there anything i can do to keep windows from fogging up so much

Everytime it rains or snows, driving my car is like trying to see through the windows after an orgy in the backseat(not that i would know) despite how high the defroster is. The windsheild will clear just enough to see, but it should be much better. The side windows are basically a joke. Why is my car so much worse than everything else i see out there? Is there anything i can do to make it go away better? I was thinking about upgrading the fans somehow, but i already can't stand that heat. What about installing some sort of heater core to the glass?

I actaully have seen sparys and things you can put on your windows to keep them from fogging up. Now, if they work, I don't know. I would tihnk an auto supply place would have some suggestions...

Put the AC on.

AC works by taking the mositure out of the air, so if the heat is on with the AC switched on as well things wont be fogging up much.

They have Anti-Fogging RainX pads for indoor use. They seem to work good...

They make some stuff you spray on the inside glass that keeps them from fogging up.

Rain-x makes one type, though ther are many other brands as well.

Its possible you have a very small coolant leak somewhere (heater core?). That'll make it fog up very easily inside the vehicle.

cold air you say? i thought the cold air would just cause more air to condense on the glass. I'll certainly try that next time though.

Edit: no AC, so that idea is out. I don't think i have a coolant leak since the level is constant. I'll go check out those sprays and such. How long do they generally last?

an old old trick is to rub an onion on the insides of your windows.
although this works it also makes your car stink. lol
get a bottle of anti fog agent from a camera store or from a place that sells eyeglasses.
can't remember the name of the stuff i use in my truck, but i got it from the eye doctor.

WHat I used on my paintball goggles and it worked AWESOMELY is a 10/1 mixture of water to baby shampoo (because it doesn't have the foaming stuff I guess). Mix it 10:1 water:shampoo and just apply it lightly on the windows and let it dry. Good chance that will work. It really did work wonders for my paintball goggles.

Condensation is based on the temperature differential on the inside and outside of the glass. So, if you can cool down the interior of the glass, and don't freeze your ass off, you should get less fog.

Forget the onions.

Use shaving gel.. same thing, no bad smell.

We always do it on the mirrors in our bathroom.. keeps them from fogging up in a small bathroom when you take hot showers for weeks.

Running the AC works by dehumdifying the air. As the air passes over the cold coils the moisture condenses and you have cold but dry air. In many cars there is a defroster position that will run the AC to dehumdify the air and then pass it over the heater coils to warm it back up. Then you have warm and dry air blowing on your windshield.

Get the inside of your windshield very clean. I've been pretty happy with EagleOne 20/20 glass cleaner. If your AC doesn't work, get it fixed. Is the air coming out of the vents hot? If not, fix the problems with you coolent system.

Sometimes, such as in my old VW the only thing to do is keep a medium sized towel on the seat next to you. Use it to keep the windshield wiped off.


I never had that much luck with the anti-fog sprays but they are worth a shot. Any Wal-Mart will have a selection.

Ok, really, you're not using the "recirculate air" setting for your ventilation, are you? That will just trap all the moisture in your car and it will condense on your windows.

My alternate suggestion is to very slightly crack open one of your windows so the moisture has someplace else to go. You probably won't even notice a temperature difference.

$1.09 bottle of isopropyl alcohol. Get a clean terry cloth, dump some alcohol on there, and rub down the inside of your windshield.

Does wonders.

ok, i have been using the the recirculate because the fan blows far harder that way. I guess that's another idea to try.

My AC isn't broken, it just doesn't exist. The air is plenty hot.

The clean thing is another good one i think. Doesn't the water need some imperfection to form on?

Also, i would go the linux route, but it isn't compatible with the current driver being used

Recirculate......there lies a major portion of your problem. Turn that off when its cold out.
