is there anything I can do about this?

so I get out of work tonight, start heading toward the parking garage, and realize that I don't have enough money to pay for parking.

I head on over to an atm across the street from my office, go through the standard stuff, and right after I hit the "give me my money" button, a message pops up "transaction denied, card withheld."

wtf.

so I call the 800 number listed, to find out how to get my card back, and they're like, "go f yourself. it's going to get destroyed in the morning and there's nothing you or I can do about it."

is there any type of recourse I can take against this bank for destroying my ATM card for no reason? :Q

I've had machines eat my card before, but I've always been able to call the bank and either pick up the card in the morning or have them mail it to me. this seems like an absolutely rediculous situation where they destroy every stuck ATM card every morning.

now I'm down to $11 until I can get a new atm card. and of course, I have a doctor's appointment on Thursday with my doc who only accepts cash for the copay :|

tonight was the first time I actually screamed at and cursed off a customer service rep.

it's a shame too, because I *had* considered switching to this bank. with it being across the street from my office, it's so convenient, and those $2 surcharges sucked.

yeah, that's about all I can do. I need to go there anyways to get a new atm card.

it's just a huge pain in the ass -- I'm usually not even awake yet when the bank closes.

nearest branch closes at 3 pm. since I don't go into work until 4 pm, 3 is right about when I'm waking up most days.

having to wake up early isn't the end of the world, though. it just pisses me off that this other bank can totally screw me like this :|

You know, back in the Stone Age there was no such thing as an ATM card. And you know what? People got along just fine without them. Stop being lazy and blaming the bank for inconveniencing you.

1. Steal a card and pin number from someone you wish ill.
2. Fill envelope with iron oxide powder and aluminum powder..
3. Avoid ban and/or federal investigation by not finishing #3

;)

so it's my fault that their atm machine ate my card for no reason and they refuse to return my card to me?

before now, I don't think I've had to use a teller since first opening my account there. the hours that they're open wasn't one of my considerations when chosing to bank there.

if the ATM machine ate your card:
1 - your card's data strip is probably bad, ATM machine thinks its been tampered
2 - your bank marked your card as lost or stolen
3 - ATM machine is broken, CSR doen't like to admit it or he's too lazy to work for your new card or just jerking you around

nope. the csr said there was no way to tell and there was nothing he could do about it.

I said "so you're telling me that I'm basically fvked?"
and he said "basically."

and that's where I cursed him off ;)

 for great idea. I usually leave $40 in the glove compartment. And whenever I can, I put a $5 note in the coin receptacle whenever I get more than $5 in change from a drive-thru (saved my ass once, managed to pull $27 from the coin receptacle :) )

:( That's why I prefer ATMs that only require that you swipe your card, rather than insert it... ;)
