i drove through new jersey ... twice ... today from MD to NYC doing a round trip today.

since i already know the fucking jersey turnpike sucks ass and would have cost me nearly $14 each way, i instead went a route that is parallel to it and took route 1 instead.

apparently new jersey has something against left turns. you can't take a fucking left turn. there are also no median strips, instead there are jersey walls. took the road for about 45 miles and nothing but jersey wall after jersey wall after jersey wall with shitty sites.

i also can't even pump my own fucking gas. oh, but also for some reason they don't like to advertise premium prices at gas stations on the big ass gas station signs, so i didn't end up stopping for gas in nj anyways.

they also have an obsession with dunkin donuts. i saw one about every 150 feet. wtf is up with that shit?

when i first got on route 1 i was like 'woah this looks VERY similar to where i bought my car - is this the same place?' ... then about 20 minutes later i realized all of the parts in new jersey i've been look identical - shitty and run down with a jersey wall on the left side and you can't make fucking left turns.

fuck that state.

The NW side of Jersey would be unrecognizable to you. Beautiful place, but looked spendy from what I saw. Lots of woods, old mills, and creeks. It was like another world. Dunno how far that lasted though. I was up there for a paddling trip.

When we were living in California my wife got a pretty good job offer in New jersey. They flew her out so she could meet the company executives and toured her around the area. The job wasn't exactly in Camden, but it was close enough.

We decided to move to North Idaho instead.

Yeah, it's the Garden State, most of which you can't see from the highway. Like most places, don't judge it by the metropolitan crapholes. Plus, New Jersey has awesome chicks! Like Ann Hathaway, Christina Ricci, and Vida Guerra, among others -:

Lived in NJ for many years, hated it. Everyone thinks they are part of the mafia and real snobby. You used to be able to pump your own gas before 1951, legislators felt it was too dangerous to have untrained (stupid) people dispensing such a flammable liquid (while smoking), so they passed the ban. The only other state with this law is Oregon.

NJ has tons of Dunkin Donuts, Pizza and Bagel Shops. It's needed for the fat people who drive there white cars to and from the malls so they can keep buying more and more crap that already have 5 or 10 of. Everyone in NJ seems to love having a white car and it's NEVER dirty.

You cannot make a left turn in NJ, you have to make a jug-handle, basically drive a mile or so, follow the u-turn sign till you come around the other side of the road. NJ also has the highest cost of auto insurance due to these morons who drive while texting.

Everything i drive though there, its like the movie death race. I will never move back there.

Some people I work with live in jersey and drive all the way to king of prussia every day. If you do that you must have good money jersey isn't cheap. When we lived there insurance was hell and taxes were even higher. I'd probably never want to live there.

In my experience...no. Everyone in public office is also so fucking corrupt/inept it's unbelievable and all the urban areas are beyond terrible (I'll make limited exceptions for Hoboken, parts of JC, and some of the communities along the palisades ). Worst state we've ever done business in by a wide margin.

I was born and raised in NJ, escaped right after high school, and never looked back. And yes the answer is NO.

Everyone forms their impressions of NJ based on what they see along the Turnpike from NYC to Philly. Which is fine, I guess. Not like we need more people. The truth is that NJ is pretty much indistinguishable from the rest of the mid-Atlantic states. We have a couple of large metro areas, a strip of goombahs along the coast, and the rest is farms, meadows, and woods.

The left hand turn thing, though... yeah that's stupid.

From what I remember NJ has a lot of large metro areas, a lot of goombahs along the coast, and very few areas of farms, meadows, and woods.

The NW corner of the state is livable, if you can afford it. NJ, next to NY, is the second worst state for taxes overall.

In a 2012 migration study by moving company United Van Lines, New Jersey was the outbound leader for 2012.

Your impression was wrong. But we are in negative population growth for the last few years. Too expensive is the bottom line. We have high property taxes and high base cost of living.
