"... anything good"?

It's obviously not high-end, like your machine... but it's more than competant for most of the tasks of an average user.

I kind of like the Tually Celerons. Decent performers and they have low power usage. Nice for a HT PC setup.

I didn't mean to make it sound bad, but it erks me that he just went out to a local shop and told the guy he needed something faster than his PIII 300Mhz and that is what they gave him. He didn't even care to learn anything about it or if it was good or not. I'm no expert but I make it a point to at least try and understand a little about something before I buy it. He has been trying to get it to work with the new mobo for the past two days with little success. The thing is he paid almost $200 for the combo and when I looked online at different sites it was clear to me that he could have bought a better combo than what he got.
Well, I haven't given him too much Shizzit for it but in turn I am trying to find out more about what he got. He doesn't care, but I'm curious for him I guess.

I know... and the real crap is they didn't install the mobo in the case or anything, that $200 was for the CPU installed on the mobo and that's it!

Believe my, I pleaded with him to let me get him a better deal, even if it was going to be a 1.3 still, but he wouldn't budge. So, I am going to let him suffer through it now, especially since he can't really upgrade this mobo either. I read a little about it and it doesn't dupport DDR memory or even 8X AGP, and it's only compatible with celeron processors. IT'll probablt do what he wants, but he could have spent his money better and that was mainly my point.
Anyway, does anyone have any stories to tell about their C1.3?

Next week when he wants to upgrade cause he can't play a game, ask him if he wants your advice.

Never had a 1.3, but had a 1.2 and several 1.0a/1.1a Celerons. They did the job and did it for cheap, plus they overclocked nicely. They're worth the $40-60 each that I paid (last year). The chip is fine for most things, but is pretty slow for video/audio compression, plus the latest game I purchased was Freelancer and it occasionally runs choppy.

They're like P3s... my bros 1.1A is clocked at 1.53 and its ok... paired with an 8500 128MB it could play most games out there. But it's definitely not worth $200. :Q

I picked up a 1.3 tut-celery to replace my 566 celery that originally replaced my 300 mhz celery. It's a nice chip because I can still use it on my Abit BH6 which I bought 3 or 4 years ago, and not replace anything else to get decent speed gains. Also, it's a good chip if you wanna build a cheap system, that is not all "g33k3d" out. What else could I have spend $50 bucks on to upgrade my computer and get that kinda performance out of it?

If you had a socket A motherboard, you could have got an XP1700 and it would have performed a hell of a lot better than any Celeron.

XP1700 for $50 at newegg
