I've heard they eat cats, rats and dogs. I've heard they eat human fetuses and toenails. I've even heard they eat cardboards soaked in pig juice made from sewer water. I've seen them eat grilled earthworms. As for aphrodisiacs, if it's rare and/or endangered, they'll ingest it to make them more virile (see rhino, Siberian tiger, African elephant). You'd think 1.4b people is proof of virility.

Anyway, is there any animals that Chinese people do not eat?

that is massively gross.. i only eat chicken, steak/beef, sushi. I dont eat any of that weird stuff they got at dimsum and definitely not cardboard soaked in pig juice..

but when you're poor and have no food, you might resort to that.. look north korea..

They don't eat cheese. It smells like toenail fungus to them. Apparently, toenails is the furthest they'd go!

Edit: beat by a few seconds.

I know this is a small sample size, but the few Chinese people I have met over the year through school, work, or other friends seem to have the same story. It is mostly the poor who eat non typical animals like cats, dogs, rats, etc. I have never heard of them eating human stuff, so I never asked about that.

I'll eat just about anything..or at least try just about anything. Its too bad I visited China before Bourdain and Zimmern or I would have an even better culinary experience. I can't wait to go to Singapore and sample all the stuff they have to offer.

I do however, draw the line at cat/dog/turtle. It does seem very arbitrary but it is what it is. Silk worms are delicious ;)

EDIT: And yes, Chinese people typically don't eat cheese. I love cheese, the stinkier the better!

Yep I'm sure the OP and everyone else here would eat what they could to survive.

The virility stuff has always been nonsense but more so now that we have viagra. Heck get those side effects and you could be popping wood four hours and hours.

A lot of the weirder food seems to originate from the south and it mostly regulated to rural communities and back alley markets these days. Most Chinese people I know don't eat that stuff, though one friend really likes duck feet.

When I was in China I ate just about anything. However typical Chinese don't and the stuff you mention is not something that a normal person would eat at all. Maybe if they're starving.

Pork is the national food of China. And scrupulous sellers of the meat put sewer water in the pigs to make them heavier so as to command a higher price. Here are others incidents...
