Is there anyone on BELLSOUTH DSL?

Comcast has literally pushed me too far this time. I'm switching. Bellsouth DSL Is the alternative to me. It's $50/month. They guarantee 256k - 1.5 mbps download depending on distance from the switch. The tech thought that they cap uploads at 256k but wasn't really sure (pretty sad that the guy at tech support doesn't even know that).

Does anyone have experience with bellsouth dsl?

<< We've had BS DSl for a while now, and I LOVE it.

Never looked back at 56k once.

Thanks for responding - do you know how fast your upload speeds are? Have you ever uploaded to somebody? Also can I ask you to do this if you get a chance:

Load up a dos command prompt from the start menu and then:

ipconfig <enter>

then see what it says for your gateway IP, like 23.43.23.43 and

ping 23.43.23.43 -n 100 <enter>

and tell me what your packet loss is (probabaly 0%), and more importantly average ping times?

I've had BS FastAccess DSL for a little over 2 years. It's great. It's not as fast as some of my friends cable modem, but fast enough for me, plus no problem with comcast. I connect at 1.4 Mb/s, so that's like downloading a file around 150 KB/s. good luck

*EDIT* Uhh yah i think it's 256Kb/s. I upload around 50 KB/s

peace

I can consistently get 28-30kbytes/sec upload to people, which is about 220-240kbits/sec. My download is about 1200kbits/sec.

I'm behind a router, so I'm not exactly sure what my external gateway IP is. I can ping my DNS servers for you though. Or just traceroute and ping the first external IP I see. Hmm.

I'll edit in a sec.

EDIT: Ping to primary DNS is consistently 10ms, with 0% loss. I pinged (panged? pung?) several other internal Bellsouth servers, and consistently, my ping time was 10ms with 0% packet loss.

Yep either first external IP is great. that's a good upload. It seems that different BS customers get upload caps depending on area ...

EDIT: Those are some nice pings!!

Yeah, I do alot of online gaming, and BS's great for that. If the server's on a fat enough pipe, I can get 30something pings on servers in Virginia and Georgia, and I even ping 50 on a Texas server! (I'm in Tennessee)

I know cashman has Bellsouth DSL...but he'll be raving and overexaggerating if he sees this because he had to endure freaking 5 years of going without broadband, because he lives in the boonies ;) . But from what i've heard from him and others, it's pretty good. BTW, this is in central florida.

That's darn good. Mine right now to anandtech.com across 50 pings is:

0% loss (what a surprise! 20 min ago I was getting 30%; i'll probably be up to 100% loss again later like I was this morning) & 148 ms. This is unusually good for me.

I'm in Huntsville too but on a campus network. I have a few friends who are on Comcast cable and don't have any problems. Another friend of mine is on Bellsouth DSL and she has never had any problems that I know of. She plays some games online and has never reported packet loss or anything like that. Sorry I can't check any pings for you or anything.
