Is there anyone here using a P8Z77 series motherboard??

Hi there,

I'm having some trouble with P8Z77 motherboard. If I plug in a USB 3.0 Flash Drive on the front USB 3.0 ports it does not function properly. I get a "USB unplugging sound" if I try and use it . But it works if I plug in the back USB 3 ports.

Now, if I plug in a USB 2.0 flash drive on the front USB 3.0 ports, it works perfectly.

So this only happens with USB 3.0 devices on front USB 3.0 ports.

I have updated all the BIOS and drivers. I went into BIOS and checked under USB. USB 3.0 is enabled.

If anyone here has P8Z77 motherboard, will you please check if the front USB 3.0 ports are working when you plug in a USB 3.0 device.

Mine work .. I think the front USB 3.0 use the ASmedia(?) Drivers versus the Intel..did you check Device Manager ? ..also, the USB 3.0 header plug is kind of a PITA to seat ..I'd check that , too

No, the front USB use Intel. Intel has 4 USB 3.0 ports. 2 at the back with USB BIOS Flash and the USB 3.0 header on the motherboard.

This doesn't sound like a problem with the motherboard, since the motherboard relies on the case and its ports for the front. Your front ports might not support USB3. I have very little knowledge about the electrical differences between the port types, if any, but this seems plausible.

I asked to my friend to help me. He has AMD rig with ASUS M5a99X EVO motherboard, which has a front USB 3.0 header. We installed all AMD drivers for his rig updated everything, the front USB 3.0 ports worked fine. We manage to transfer all the files at full-speed on to the Kingston 3.0 flash drive without any errors, so I know it’s not my PC case’s USB 3.0 cable at fault.
