Inachu what are you talking about? A HUD is not AR.
A hud is like google glass. But when something is presented to you virtually no matter if it 3D or not then it is an augmentation none-the-less.
But yes I can see your confusion and yes the best augmented reality would be the Microsoft GLASS wear thing.
You can have augmented reality without wearing any special fancy eye device.
The reverse of augmented reality would be using hand gestures using XBOX1
Augmented reality for the blind would be gloves that give the sensation of feeling something that is not there.
I was at the F.O.S.E.(
http://www.fose.com/) for the govt in downtown D.C. few years ago and I put on the augmented reality VR system to do remote emergency surgery on a patient located in California. It was pretty lightweight and the getup looked like something batman would wear.
I could feel the broken bone in the arm and leg and I placed them back together.
I used the small HUD to choose the tool to use on the bone then my 3D computerized hands gave feedback into the gloves as I moved the patient.
I took the stuff off as many 4 star generals started looking at what I was doing and my japanese gf was waiting for me.
