That's why the best possible solution - if you have a little money and time to spare - is to build a HTPC with a digital TV tuner. It gives you the best possible amount of space, the most options, and you can do whatever you want with your recordings (well, except redistribute them).

With a quad tuner, you can even watch and record up to 4 different channels at the same time.

You guys in the USA have to pay to record on to your PVR's? At the risk of sounding like someone on this board, I don't get it.

I don't get it... Since when are there subscriptions for DVR's...?

OK. Can't you buy the cable box from the cable company? In Canada, we can do that....they are expensive but it is an option.

I thought OP meant he had to pay a fee to record shows.
