Is there any way to study for Aptitude Tests?

I'm wondering if you can actually study for an aptitude test, or do they mostly consist of questions that you either know or you don't?

I'm asking because i've been thinking about joining the police force, and an aptitude test is the very first thing on the list that you have to pass, cannot go any further unless you pass it, and you cannot take it for another year if you fail it, so it's important. Is there any websites out there that help you prepare for aptitude tests? do they generally consist of the same type of questions?

Or, do you think it is wrong for me to be trying to study for an aptitude test? Maybe i'm not cut out for the job if I can't walk in there and pass the test without studying for it.. after all, aren't they designed for that reason?

You can study for them but they try to make them broad enough that you're returns to investment are small...

Well, the first thing you should do is have more confidence in yourself, it is something you are interested in and something you want to do so logically you more than likely have an aptitude for the job.

Ah true...there's ways to get a bit better. Ask someone who's taken the test :)

I'm finding out a bit more about the tests.. I know this particular law enforcement one tests you on: Composition, Comprehension, Memory, Judgement, Observation, Logic, and Computation. Maybe strategies is what i'm looking for, how to go about solving certian questions that they may ask. Is there a general guideline for these tests? I'm trying to find some practice ones, and some study guides if possible, to get a better idea of what kind of questions are asked on them.
