Is there ANY way to secure hs/fan onto socket P3 w/o clip??

The plastic groove that secures the heatsink clip snapped and Asus is a big biatch on warantee's so I guess I'm only left with the choice of rigging my setup somehow. This is on a CUSL2 w/ an FCPGA P3. I'm actually using a coldplate, but I guess securing it onto the CPU would apply as the same as with a heatsink/fan. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I don't think glue or epoxy would be very safe, and even if it was I wouldn't have that stuff near my CPU.

where did you buy it from, I would bring it back to them and see what they can do, if you have had it a short time I don't see why they wouldn't replace it, they can send it back and they don't lose anything on an RMA, thats what I would do... hope you didn't buy it online cuz they usually are biatches about that sorta thing too!

you could use fishing line and put the line through holes on your motherboard through your heatsink. I did that for my graphics card.

that would work ... that was a good idea! you could try gluing a clip or some type of loop on the Socket in the place of where the clip was, epoxy would work... or the fish line... damn that was a good idea!

Find a replacement spring-type heatsink clip. They grab the thicker tabs that lie offcenter on the socket. Never attach a heatsink to an FC-PGA cpu with any type of adhesive if you plan to use the cpu with another heatsink at a later date.

I had a couple people e-mailing me that they had the same problem, and in both cases it was the left socket that snapped off just like mine! Geez what's going on here? Anyways yea I was wondering what those 2 tabs were doing there. I didn't see any use in them since they were diagonal to each other but right now I'm using a rubber band between them to secure the hs... Could you possibly direct me someplace that might sell the clip for it?

If I guessed correctly about what the clip looks like, it's one of those clips that lets you attach a waterblock to your CPU. It's got two long pins with a spring in the middle, tighten the pins, and the spring will pull down the heatsink/waterblock.

you could use any small spring to hook yoru heatsink on. Go to the nearest Home Depot or any hardware store. Hardware not being as in computers but as in with woodworking and all that fun stuff.
