I think I bit my tongue in my sleep yesterday night and it is hurting like hell.

I have these choices:

Aspirin
Acetaminophen
Mouth rinse for sores
Regular mouthwash
Beer

I need suggestion on which works best to reduce my pain. TIA

Hot sauce. It'll burn at first, but then it might feel better.

I'd just man up, it will pass.
Mouth rinse for sores looks like the most sensible option anyway although I don't know what that is.

Rinse it with warm salt water. It works for gums, I don't see why it wouldn't work for tongues as well.

Do you have any cloves in your spice cabinet? If you chew one up and concentrate on the area then it will go numb. Is there actually a cut there or is it just hurting? It sounds gross much you might swish some peroxide if there is a cut..

good point. I forget the spice, though I know it is used in real Chinese dishes--star anise, maybe? Chewing into a whole anise will make your mouth numb. ....maybe it isn't star anise.

chewing on star anise will lead to increased pain... those things can be used as weapons.

As mentioned, clove/clove essential oil. Swanky health food store/nice grocery store will have it.

Uh, and you would want to dilute the clove oil with olive oil or something. Pure oil is so strong that it can cause blistering. Definitely numbs you up though - as effectively as any topical anesthesia you'll get at a dentist's office.

Mouth rinse for sores and/or canker sore medicine.
This. It's found in the toothpaste section of a department store.
I've found Orajel to give a bit less of an "OH GOD IT BURNS" feeling upon application than Anbesol.

I usually use the "toothache" formula. The officially-labeled "canker sore" formulations have some goo-forming agents in them that allegedly help protect the sore. All I've found them to be good at is forming goo, and not much else.

The store brand usually does the job as well as the expensive name-brand
Also, be sure to get something that has 20% benzocaine. There are weaker formulations with 10% or less.

I've gotten those things constantly ever since gradeschool. Going through braces in high school was awful - most of the inside of my mouth turned into a nasty irritated sore spot, on top of the constant headaches from having my jaw forcibly reconfigured.
I'd have bought pure benzocaine by the barrel if I could have.

I used to rub Orajel on my sons gums and tongue when they were teething. I think that has numbing properties in it and can be found at most places like Walmart or CVS. Just look in the baby department for it.

Yeah I purchased that mouthwash for canker sores. I used it about an hour ago.. and it got better for about 15 mins and pain came back.

I am going to try cloves and warm water with salt.
