-right click
-click on options => preferences
-on the main screen under the "file" subheading, there should be a box labeled "enques as default action" on the bottom right corner of the menu
-check it

Kernel streaming gives better audio performance. There is a plugin for WinAmp 2 for kernel streaming, but unless that also works on 1.9x WinAmp still sucks.
