Is there any way to join .VOB video files?

I got some videos of some of my relative's wedding event, which was shot in some format called .VOB. No, I don't know what that format is, yes, I am an idiot.

In any case, is there any way to join these videos properly? I tried with VOBMerge 2.55 and the videos join all right but there's no audio!

So if there is any way to join these files with retaining the audio please inform me. At the same time if there is a way to convert these files to either MP4 or MKV it would be great. Cause this darn VOB format isn't supported by my TV!

Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot for mentioning it mate. But could you please tell me how to join the videos? I am kind of in a hurry, so want to do it as fast as possible :p

Use Freemake video converter. If you point it to the directory with the DVD files, it will show you each of the video streams and allow you to convert the ones you want. There will usually be 4 or 5 that are 1 gig or so each - or about 1 hour each IIRC.

I think it will also give you the option to join them in a single file or split them out in separate files. I normally convert dvds that are a series of episodes so when I have to do this I normally choose separate files.

I haven't done this in a while though so I may be wrong on some of the details. Let me know if you need a hand or I got something wrong.

Actually FreeMake would encode the videos, won't it? I just want to join the damn files.

In case I want to further convert it to MP4 or something, I will think about that sort of option, but first job is to join the files, without encoding.

TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works- v5.0.6.38 or just use an Avi Editor like Like VitualDub and particularly TMPGenc Authoring Works v4.0.12.42_RETAIL in your case.

Why are you bothered about VOB mpg2/ac3 mpg files when AVC/ACC MP4, Flv and MKV Video Files are the norm.

Look into MeGUI.

If I want to Accurately Edit Video, I still use XVID.AVI files and VirtualDub - Go Figure.

Any decent video editor should be able to do what you want. With Nero Video, I import the VOB files and string them together on the edit bar. I then export the project as an mpeg2 file so there's no transcoding, and finally run the mpeg2 file through mkvmerge to end up with an mkv file. You could omit the last step, since your player can no doubt play a .mpg file.
