by cold sore, i mean how the skin at the corner of your mouth (on the outside) gets sort of dry, red, and irritated.

Herpes Complex? "some poeple are clueless"

There is Herpes Simplex type 1 and 2.

Read this web page for some info.

It says that most kids that get cold sors get them from an adult kissing them. So maybe it's a good idea to not let just anyone kiss your kids.

I've never had a cold sore, but I thought I had genital herpes about 6 months ago. After being all stress out for about a week, I decided to go the city health clinic thing to get a professional opinion. I was told that I had jock itch. I'm sure everyone in there had a good laugh about that as soon as I left the building.

What are you saying, that you have HSV-2 and not type 1 like him? haha

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the possibility that you are infected with HSV-1 simply because you don't get cold sores. Some 90-100% of the population have HSV-1 antibodies, but not everyone who is infected with HSV-1 is susceptible to periodic outbreaks causing herpetic lesions.

Gawd I hate those dang things..L-Lysine seems to stomp em out in a week or less..and take maintenance doses to scare em away. Often wondered if a smallpox sore is similar to a cold sore..probably not.

abreva works pretty well.. i've had cold sores since i was a kid.. i hate those things.. but since your'e already at the dry red irritated stage, it's sorta late to use it.. your'e supposed to use it when you get that "tingly" feeling.. if it's at that dry red stage, then it's almost over.. carmex might work pretty good, although i've never tried it.. abreva works wonders when you use it from the start.. cuts the time in half
