Is there any way to get a free online pass for BF3?

I rented Battlefield 3 for PS3 to see if I'd wanna buy it (for the online multiplayer) and i was hoping there was a free trial or something, but it says I have to pay $9.99 for an online pass. This sucks because how the hell am I supposed to know if I like the multiplayer? I'll play the campaign but I'm not sure how indicative of the online that is.

Nope, no trial. I've yet to see a game with an online pass offer a free trial. Start researching your rentals from this point on to see if they require an online pass.

Lots offer a free trial. Games like Homefront, Warhammer and Bulletstorm all let you level up to a certain level before asking for online pass money. Its too bad all wouldn't do that, just let BF3 level up your guy even to level 2 or 3 would be a good enough demo of the online. Its definitely worth getting BF3 though, just multiply the fun you have in single player by 10 and that's what online is.

The single player in BF3 is not indicative at all of the experience you can have in multiplayer, its really just slapped in there. If you even remotely enjoy the single player you'll love the multiplayer.

The single player was good, and then in the last chapter it went down the shitter. Quite a shame tbh.
