Just curious. I just built my own machine, I was wondering if there is way to actually create a laptop to your specifications. I mean cmon it has to be at least somewhat cheaper. Thanks in advance.

Not really. System motherboards, cases and several other major components are proprietary, and not available for purchase. There are no real "generic standards" like we have for desktop systems.

That being said, most large laptop verndors, say DELL, Compaq, etc, give you some sort of customisation control at the time of purchase with regard to processor, RAM size, hard drive size, CDROM/DVD.

Nope - And if it were possible, it seems like the prices of the components that are available haven't really followed the free fall that decktop components have. Look around eBay and you will find some part here and there but if you do happen to find all the parts needed for a whole laptop...I think you might be a bit disappointed. While you're there look at some of the prices of complete laptops that are maybe a couple years old. I personally have a 366 P2 with a 15" lcd that I bought for what I thought at the time was a hot deal at $1900....looking around and judging by the relative prices I would be lucky to be able to find a buyer at 4-500...Now that would be a hot deal...
