Is there any way this forum can be moderated a little better?

I know that you guys are busy, but I love reading this forum when the posts cover the intended purpose, and all it seems to be lately is "My motherboard doesn't boot because I havent read the manual and I am trying to overclock it and thus I was wondering is a geforce is better than a radeon?"

If there is any way to nuke or move these topics it would be really nice.

PS: I know THIS post isn't highly technical, but I hope you get my point :)

We try. The best way to encourage better moderation, however, is to PM us directly. It's hard to keep up with the thousands of new threads on this board daily.

:D lol

I think a slashdot style meta-moderation would be pretty cool - could be beta-tested in HT? After a post gets 4 or 5 Off-topic ratings, it gets locked/deleted... and although this post is technically OT, it could be rated "interesting" or something else

If you don't realize that this sig is poking fun at all the 12 year olds who have mommy buy them a top of the line system and list every single item in their machine like its some sort of pissing contest, then my apologies.

Most likely these are normally the same people who post

"Win 2000 pro without Outlook and games "
"When is the CPU a bottleneck for the AIW 8500dv?
"win2k IIS/PWS problems "
"Does anyone here repair treadmills? "
"Format a HD using /q ? "
"How to replace a MB and not do a fresh install?? "
In this forum.

I used to love things like PM and burnt koosie talking about cpu design, now for some reason this is a "newbie help on hard topics forum."

No apologies necessary. I fully comprehend the reasoning behind your signature. Admitted, you must be pretty dumb to miss it, no?

Never Overestimate the Intelligence of Humans. 'nuff said.

No matter how many times people will be told that HT is not for troubleshooting and the less technical questions, certain posts like the ones you mentioned will still pop up now and then.

I'd say, lock them and be done with them.

Yeah, but no one is locking them.....

Well, I think the current system is fairly good. Somebody posts an OT post, the 1st person to read puts a little wrong forums or the like and everybody else ignores it. Either that or give a certain few members the ability to lock HT threads. pm comes to mind as a good one and burntkooshie as well.

Course the mods have this thing about giving members special powers :)

i don't really agree.....I remember when this first started, there were a lot of members gung-ho about this forum. In a sense, a lot of us "self-moderated" this forum. I became busy due to school, and others became busy too...and every time I come back to this forum, there are a few more OT posts than there were the last time...At this point, there's little reason to have this forum over General.

For once, I actually agree.

This thread doesn't belong here in HT. It needs to be moved to Forum Issues.

Although I would normally have agreed with you, I feel that I've to disagree. This thread will make clear to those who are new that non-HT threads are not wanted in HT.

Perhaps it will indeed lead to a new 'race' of moderators, who will watch over HT only. The /. kind of moderating doesn't sound too bad either.

I have to agree with Elledan. Although you are correct, how many of us would have seen it there? Sometimes I like to quickly look at the HT forum and see if there is anything that is especially interesting. Certain things do occasionally belong in the "wrong" forum.

here's a thread in Forum Issues you may want to reply to: here

My entire point was to emphasize that this topic belongs in Forum Issues. The moderators regulary read those topics and occasionally reply. Isn't it self-defeating to post that something is "wrong" where it won't (obviously) be read by the people who can actually do something about it? (rhetorical question)

Locked at the top of this forum are the rules that aren't read. I guarantee that if you post this in Forum Issues and LINK to the improperly posted topics here, the mods WILL (eventually) delete or move them. Posting it here is like p!$$ing into the wind. ;)

It's been posted in Forum Issues now...

I agree, I've given up visiting HT anymore, as it's really no different then GH at this point. Occasionally you'll see the rare post that belongs, but the vast majority of it is essentially a dupliate of GH.
Had this not been posted in FI, I wouldnt have even been aware of this thread.

I wonder what the chances are of the Moderators promoting you to be a HT Mod?

Maybe the mods could stick a thread with some kind of description of the forums on top?

The "Please read" thread that's there now doesn't really say anything unless you read it, and somehow I doubt most people dont.

I totally understand that...I sure as hell wouldn't want the moderators' job, they get a lot of grief for a lot of hard work. I think the best thing we can do is to continue to politely remind people when their posts are off-topic (and point them to the HT welcome message).

From that thread in Forum Issues:

<< No, we read both of those forums. On the other hand, we are also limited in our overall amount of time we can contribute, and can't be reading the forums all the time.

I'll strike a deal with you. Write up what you consider to be a sufficient sticky-thread, and post it in HT, to help new users determine whether or not their post belongs. If they post OT, DO NOT ANSWER THEIR QUESTION. Tell them where to repost it. If I come across a thread that needs to be moved, I will move it. Sound fair?

Now that sounds FAIR.

Guys? . . . Wanna write that thread topic?

EDIT: Is THIS that thread?
