Is there any way I can test to see if my DVD Player will read burned DVDs?

Ok, first of all, let me get this said. I am doing this because I have a tendency to lose things. Namely DVDs. So I am going to back-up DVDs I own and keep them in a safe place in case I lose the original.

Now, with that being said, let me explain my situation.

I have a rather old DVD player. I'm thinking around 4 years or so. I know that some older players have difficulty playing burned DVDs. So I want to test to see if my DVD player would be able to read them before I go out and buy a DVD burner for my PC.

Basically what I want to do is create a test DVD using a regular CD-R and a regular CD-RW burner. I have a movie already that I could condense to fit on a standard CD. So what I need to know is how can I burn it onto a regular CD and see if my DVD player would recognize it. What software will I need and what are the procedures for doing it? I have Nero already.

thanks!

Have you tried to input your brand and model into this database

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

and see what the other users are saying? Also... be aware that if you're making video CDs on regular CD-R media, even if they work on your machine, there's still no guarantee that your player will be able to see DVD-Rs... So check with videohelp, and then, if you want to verify media, by all means, buy and record one disc of the media you plan to be using.

Just a thought, have you tried finding someone that has a DVD Burner and tried one of there burned movies in your player? Try both formats if you can (+ and -). If you do get one I personally like using "DVD Copy Xpress" to back up my movies, it compresses the movie to fit onto one DVD!
