Yes, its possible. There should be 4 pins holding the heatsink the catridge. The easiest way of popping them out is to place a small case screw flat side down on a table and popping out each of the pins. This meathod worked great on my P3 450 slot 1 cpu.
anoter quick question: will the heatsink only (no fan) that worked well for a p3 550 mhz work fine for a 1ghz p3? is the heat difference between those two that much different that i would have to get one with a fan?
I couldn't get a Heatsink & Fan off a Pentium II 400mhz.....seemed like Panrix had like carbon bonded it to the CPU.
Agreed on the Pentium III 1ghz.....you can pickup suitable fans for around £3/$5...only needs to be low end.....you could also look at getting a huge heatsink and just having that instead of a smaller one with a fan?
