Is there any such thing as TV-OUT that looks good?

In my opinion TV-out is only good for DVD playback and games that have no text. I haven't seen any where I would call the text even fair, however I use an ATI Rage Fury Pro (same basic TV-out as Radeon) for DVD playback on my 35" TV and it looks good to excellent. Just a tad below my Toshiba set-top DVD player in quality. Games like Q3 look good. Text does not. I mean, you can read it but you don't really want to.

How about divx playback?

TVs have terrible resolution and refresh rates. However they have great color depth. To me, anything that is meant to be displayed on a computer monitor that has been forced onto a TV looks terrible. There isn't anything you can do, the resolution just isn't enough for decent pictures.

It's a limitation of NTSC TVs -- you can't really display good sharp computer text on a regular TV.

Back in my old Atari 800 days, most home computers used a TV for display. I once asked an Atari engineer why don't they have an 80 column text mode? Why is 40 columns the max? He replied that TVs are great for displaying pictures and videos but they aren't so good for text display. About 40 columns is the max because TVs have a resolution of about 320x480. They can do 640x480 or 800x600 but the text would be blurry.
