A lot of keyboard commands have alternate versions. This one I sort of doubt, because it's such a fundamental one. Anyway, here goes --
I use Windows 2000 Server at work on a lab machine. It is running a web application that our company is developing. I'm a testing engineer, junior grade, just a couple of months on the job. I just got set up with VPN so I can get into the company network from home where I have Windows 2000 and a cable modem. Cool!
We have Timbuktu Pro for Windows on all the machines, and I'm quite used to controlling one machine from another. I downloaded a trial version of it for the home box, and it works!! From home I can Timbuktu into my cubicle desktop, and even open Timbuktu on that one to get control of the lab machine. Neat!
Well, I was practicing some stuff, trying to solve some problems that were left dangling at the end of Friday, the sort of puzzle that you don't want to go home, you want to keep playing with it. But I had to meet my wife, so...
Today, in playing with it over the VPN, I ran into a problem where the app was no longer responding the way I expect. At work I would go to the lab and try to resolve whatever was hanging it up. Often the last resort is to reboot so all the services get refreshed. I knew I might not be able to get back in after a reboot, but I wasn't worried. We're going to be Ghosting the whole setup on Monday when the latest build of the application will be installed for the next round of testing. So there was no risk except that I might not be able to play for the rest of the weekend.
So using Timbuktu I told the lab box to Restart, and prayed, and sure enough Timbuktu reconnected after the reboot, and I was looking at the screen of the lab box on my home box. But being Windows 2000 Server, it comes to a screen where you do Ctrl-Alt-Del to get to the loging. When I hit C-A-D here at home I get the Task Manager HERE!!! I can't think of any way around it.
So is there any other signal that can be sent from home that would duplicate the C-A-D signal but without actually hitting the C-A-D keys here?
