Is there any stats on HDD cooling?

I did a quick google and could find any really good matches for this top so i thought i would post it up here and see what the forum members think about it.

I am kinda curious to know what HDD orientation keeps the HDD cooler? We already know that the HDD can be positioned in any layout but what actually is best to keep your hdd temps down in a static environment.

I'd think that vertical might be better for cooling as most heat production is from the PCB side of the drive which in the horizontal orientation would normall be on the bottom, but I know of no studies one way or the other. With a fan putting a light breeze across the top an bottom, I dooubt there would be much diff.
