Is there any special way to dispose of an LCD monitor?

What's the best way to get rid of an old LCD monitor? Is there somewhere that they're recycled in particular? (I'm in Los Angeles, if that helps.) I figured they wouldn't be safe for landfills, yeah? Because I think California charges a disposal fee when you buy new LCDs...

Surprisingly, couldn't find much info on it with quick (albeit superficial) Google search. Can anyone give me a concrete answer?

You can take it to Best Buy. For monitors they usually charge a $10 fee (but give you a $10 gift card), but that's waived for CA most likely because of the recycling fees we already pay.

Post it up on Craigslist as a freebie. Someone will want to tinker with it, or may need spare parts from it. I've also seen dead LCD monitors selling on Ebay for spare parts.

Meant to thank you guys for the feedback on this. It's well after the fact, but--thanks! :) I got it taken care of.
