Is there any software to encrypt files that you back up to DVD-R's?

So when the DVD is inserted into the drive it requires a password to view the files?

Encrypt the files with something like GPG and then burn those files, no matter what you do you'll have to install some software on any machine that you want to access the files from.

That truecrypt link seems decent, but the fact that they came up with their own license seems odd and the fact that the real documentation was only available as a PDF was a turnoff.

I've used PGP Desktop for years and recently switched to TrueCrypt. It's just that good ;)

One benefit is that it can indeed run from the media sans installation and can prompt for password as required by OP. Unlike PGP it also works with DVD-RAM (providing Matsush1ta's driver is used rather than Ahead's). The only thing really lacking in TC is folder mounting which I had used for email databases 'n' such, but reportedly it is planned.

Can you believe the name of one of the world's largest multinational conglomerates is censored by AT?
