Is there any security in a bank transfer?

There is a company in China i want to do business with, as far as buying some replacement parts for cell phones.

They only accept bank transfers and i've never done one. Is it the same as western union? Your outta luck if you dont get the product? What else can i offer to them as payment? How can i check that they are legit?

They are one of the few places that carry the part that i need, so its tempting, but i'm a little nervous about it.

For the sellers, wire/bank transfers are very safe.

For the buyers, if you don't receive the product you are basically SOL.

The actual transfer of funds is very safe. Whether or not you receive any goods is an entirely different matter. In your case, the only thing you can go by is the company's reputation. If you can't find out any info on their background, then I wouldn't risk the transaction unless it wasn't that much money.
