Is there any reason you still get 6800GT instead 6800GS?

Comparing x1800 pipes to 6800gt pipes is like apples and oranges - it's a totally different architecture, and the x1800 pipes especially are different from the pipes of any other gpu architecture. But 16 pipes 6800gt vs 12 pipes 6800gs is a valid comparison since it's the same architecture. Pipes, however, only add to the fillrate of a card, while overclocking increases the performance of the whole gpu, so typically there's a bigger boost in performance from a substantial overclock than from adding 4 more pipes. If the typical GS can reach 500 mhz, then even with 12 pipes it should be as fast or faster than a 6800GT at 430 mhz.

Yeah I wish the reviewers overclocked both cards and then did benchies- would have been interesting to see which would come out on top.

6800GT @ 430 MHz > 6800GS @ 500 MHz

There's no doubt the GT is a better overclocker. At 430 MHz that's a 23% overclock for the GT while @ 500 MHz "only" a 18% overclock for the GS . . .

But the difference isn't really that apparent unless you are picky about +5%/-5% differences in FPS . . .

However, there are obvious advantages to the 6800GS:

1. Lower price
2. No real performance decrease vs. 6800GT
3. Newer design (i.e. 7800 PCB)
4. Did I mention price?

If you can find a 6800GT for ~ $200 though I would say get that instead . . . otherwise a 6800GS would def. be the smarter decision . . .

I went to the place to buy videocard yesterday, the sales told me that 6800GS is using 128bit and GT is definitely faster... so i hurried back and verify.
GS is 256bit...

I am sure you have good reason for your poor english that was used in the Poll, but the fact remains it was rather poor and hard to read. So it would have been easy to make it "clear"er""

YES, 6800GT still faster (this one is fine for the most part, but plasing a is before the word faster would of helped.)

NO, 6800GS replace and faster (this is horrible horrible english and this is from a guy who practices horrible english on a daily basis)

Like I stated above, my english is horrible for a 24 year old american, but even I had trouble with your poll.

Now for the 6800GS, no reason to buy 6800GT unless you already own one and want to SLI it. The GS is as fast if not faster and soon nobody will have the choice as Nvida stops having the NV40 produced. Although sombody reported that instead of using a bridge chip Nvidia was going to use AGP native NV40s for the AGP 6800GS.

I see these OC'ed 6800GS's nailing 6500 3dmarks in 3dm05 (an X800XL scores around 5500), and dual 6800GS's performing very well in FEAR.

True but for the price of two 6800GS you can get a 7800GTX . . .
