Is there any reason why I shouldn't buy a 2000 Honda Accord EX V6 Coupe?

Hi guys, i'm gonna be in the market for a used after the winter. I've considered Volvo s80 and Audi A4 but they dont seem as reliable and easy maintenance as Accord V6. I think Accord V6 is the best I could get with that budget as far as reliability and quality goes. Thoughts? Shooting for a black with leather as show here Text

1999-2002 Suffers from transmission failure.. there was a recall/extended warranty depending on what year you got.. forgot what the 2000 one was...

http://auto.consumerguide.com/Auto/Used.../id/2289/act/usedcarreviewreliability/

Automatic transmission: On V6 models, transmissions may fail due to lack of thread-locking compound on nut for low clutch. Honda/Acura has extended warranty on affected vehicles to 7 years or 100,000 miles. (1999-2002)

Thanks for the info. Though, I'm aware there were many complaints with transmission problems, Accord still seems to be very reliable car compared to others I've mentioned....

Seems like 2002 models have the issue resolved... I guess I may have to raise the budget tad bit..

Already thought about it.. I just like Accord better than Maxima. It's still a very solid ride....

I'm very attached to my 98 coupe v6 (same body style). Best of luck in your search/with your car! I actually prefer the slightly more angular look to the current gen models.

You can't get a V6 stick shift with these model years. I ended up buying a 2001 Accord EX-L 4cyl with manual (which I don't have anymore).

One of my biggest complaints about that car was that it was largish and didn't feel planted to the road and had a great tendency to "dance" on slippery surfaces...like a shopping cart. I drive an Outback wagon now. :)

I have about 86000 miles on it (I got it used @63k miles in 2001). No problems with it. My mileage was a little lower than normal before my major maintenance (got that around 80k), but went back up after. I would like to add that maintenance costs for this car (and Hondas in general) are very reasonable with respect to other brands, speaking specifically about a number of my friends that bought A4s/BMW 3-series because they hadn't taken maintenance costs into account.

I have a 2000 EX-V6 Fully loaded. No probs with the transmission with about 120k miles. The only thing I would say is that I think the value is probably lower. For 9-10k you should probably be able to get a 2002.

Depending on the miles, you could get the 2001 20th Anniversary Maxima in that price range (if you can find it). THAT was a great car. Personally, I don't think that generation Accord even compares to the fit, finish, sport and luxury of that car.

I would only get the 4-cylinder models from that generation. With a manual, you will find the power to be just fine. My dad has the V6, and the power is great, especially on hills and when the car is loaded with people, but as someone who values reliability over nearly all else, I couldn't personally buy one. My 91 (see sig) is still going pretty strong. I'll likely replace it with a new V6 6-speed at the end of the year. I drove one and it's fast (C&D reports sub-6 second 0-60 times). Thank god Honda wised up and both fixed the auto for the V6 and added a manual option for both sedan and coupe.

My son has a 2000 Accord Coupe with the I4 engine. We recently received the recall, but it only applies up to 100,000 miles. His has 175,000 miles on it and has had no surprising problems. The engine is peppy, even on hills, and still gets over 30MPG.

If you like a speedy car you might want to consider the older Infinitys also.

My friend has a 2000 4cyl auto and he is also having tranny problems...so it may not just apply to the v6 models...

The first time it died, the part was japanese. Unless somebody faked a honda and sold it to you.
