is there any reason to worry about a child having nosebleeds?

Kids get nosebleeds for a variety of reasons. Just keep an eye on him. If it continues take him to a doctor.

I wouldn't think so. I have a cousin who gets a bloody nose once or twice a week when it's humid and eight to ten times a day when it's dry. Does it just drip out slowly or does it trickle?
I'd say one night is fine. Wait a couple days, and see if it continues. Even if he does have something else that's causing the nosebleeds, the difference of a couple days wont' affect recovery rate.
I've had chronic nosebleeding ever since I was born... and I mean EVERY day until 4th grade.
Eventually it just went away. Just make sure your son knows to get a kleenex and pinch the side of his nose that's bleeding until it stops.

It's usually not a big deal. I had them frequently as a child. I think mine was party due to dry air and mainly due to irritation from my environment. I lived in a polluted area and my parent smoked in the house.
A sinus infection can also cause them. Unless they get worse, I'd just let it go a few days and see if he gets better.

Anyhoo, i'd be just a bit worried since it's sudden and he's running a fever. I had chronic nosebleeds my whole life until about a year ago when I had my nose cauterized (sp?). Occasionally, I lost enough blood to make me a bit weak (yes, it is possible with nosebleeds) but other than that there's not much to worry about with them at all.
Well...if it stops you really have to leave it alone for a good 3 days. Blowing your nose, picking your nose after having a nosebleed can cause it to start to bleed again. Limit his activity and do not let him pick his nose or blow his nose for a good 3 days....hard I know.
If it still happens and he isn't picking at it etc. then you should probably consult your physician.
The only other problem is the pain killer...is it a blood-thinner? That could be the cause of the reoccurance

Could be from having a cold (blowing nose too much), from dry air, from allergies, or from keeping his finger in there too much. Clip his fingernails, run a humidifier in his room tonight if you have one, and you might consider running a q-tip coated (lightly) in vaseline around inside his nostrils to keep them moist. Make sure he doesn't swallow too much blood, it'd probably make him barf, which is bad for morale.
