Is there any reason to upgrade to NAV 2004?

I honestly dont see any new features. I'm currently running NAV 2003 and it does a great job for me. Seen 2004 at a friend's place and it looked no different. Are you guys upgrading? I dont see any other reason to upgrade except for the "feel good" factor....

I wouldn't bother. I'd send Symantec an email saying that you aren't buying it because of the activation. It's not like with Windows where that's the only game in town*. Tell them you're going to use AV from some other manufacturer that doesn't use the BS Product Activation crap.

Vote with your wallet like the people did last year with Turbo Tax. Intuit tried pulling that activation crap and their sales dropped so far that they reversed themselves and won't have Product Activation on this years Turbo Tax.



*Linux users don't bother flaming, you know what I mean.

I really don't understand the issues people have with activation. It's what, three mouse clicks (for Windows XP)? Is that so hard? I mean, unless you are using software illegally (DISCLAIMER: I am NOT saying anyone is) then what's the big deal? I just don't get it. Everyone was up in arms when Microsoft did it (and, I'll not there are other comapnies that did this before Microsoft. They just weren't Microsoft (and if Microsoft does it, it's bad, if company X does it, it's not bad) so no one bothered to complain. Or I suppose maybe they did, but they were not as big as MS so it didn't matter as much. But, I digress... Everyone was b!tchin and moanin about having to activate Windows. Now, for the most part, they feel stupid, because it's a non-issue. It is so simple that any bozo with two brain cells to rub together can do it. People just fear and loathe what they don't understand. Or what makes it harder for people to steal (see DISCLAIMER). If you don't want to upgrade, or don't like Symantec's products, by all means, don't buy it. I wouldn't base my buying decision on product activation alone. I can handle a few added mouse clicks and don't feel the need to pirate sofware, there is plenty of free stuff (and not just for Linux, since I don't use Linux).

Aside from $50 I dont think there's any difference. 🙂 I mean, you can product updates with LiveUpdate just fine... My 2002 version still catches all the virus' floating around so I'm not worried.

Well, and the fact that you can only activate it a few times before you need to buy a new license. For somebody who goes through systems as fast as i do, that means i'll need a new license every year or so.

And BTW, not everybody is online.

Pay for an extension, by selecting renew now. Not sure how much it is, ive always upgraded my software which automatically renews your subscription anyway.
 
I am using NAV 2002 and I am not looking to upgrade unless Symantec stops supporting NAV 2002....

Looks like it is only $10 for the year. I guess this is my cheaper alternative.

I'm not sure I understand your 'For somebody who goes through systems as fast as i do, that means i'll need a new license every year or so.' If your replacing systems (not adding new ones), you don't need to purchase additional licenses you can transfer it (generally automatically also).

And, for what it's worth, the activation requirements aren't as strict as Intuit/MS. I suspect most users (even those you install a couple times a year) will ever run into the need to call in.
